ROSSENDALE’S Marl Pits has never been the easiest of venues with few sides coming away with anything to show for their efforts and so it proved once again as Firwood Waterloo were beaten 24-8 in a result which sees the east Lancashire club hop above them in the National Three North table.
The home side took the early lead with a try from Paddy Pole converted by Steve Nutt. Firwood Waterloo replied, a penalty from Liam Reeve for 7-3 at half time.
In the second period tries from Anthony Bingham and Danny Collins also converted by Nutt increased the Rossendale advantage although in perhaps the best move of the game Firwood Waterloo came back into contention with a try from Andrew Trotter. It was to be to no avail as in the closing minutes the home side took the bonus point and sealed the win with a try from Sam Lothian.
Firwood Waterloo have no game next week but return to action at home to Billingham on 17th November, a game they really need to win.
