Liverpool golfer Nick Dougherty misses out on return to European Tour

LIVERPOOL’S Nick Dougherty missed out on the chance to return to the European Tour at final qualifying school.

The three-time winner, who spent 2012 on the second tier Challenge Tour after failing to make Europe’s top 115 the previous season, could only finish 151st in the 154-strong field.

The top 25 players earn playing rights for 2013.

Dougherty, who became a father for the first time this summer, had rounds of 80 73 77 74 to continue a nightmare run of form.

His last Tour win came as recently as 2009, but he was 20-over par at PGA Catalunya.

Although he showed signs of a return to form this year, he could not find the consistency required to qualify from the Challenge Tour rankings and was also unsuccessful at the US PGA qualifying school.

Birchwood’s Phil Archer also faces another season on the Challenge Tour, having missed out on a return to the top level in the final event of the season.

He had rounds of 80 72 75 73 for a total of 300.
