Rugby union: Waterloo round-up

WATERLOO are desperate to continue where they left off in 2012 when they travel to take on improving Birkenhead Park.

Loo sit in eighth place in National Three North having won six of their 14 games so far, but there is no room for any complacency at Blundellsands.

“Compared to previous seasons we are in a good place but there is a lot of work still to do,” said director of rugby Jan Van Deventer. “We cannot afford to be complacent for as Birkenhead Park have shown, just as an improvement in form can move you up the table quite quickly, the reverse is also true.

“Looking at the league table, this is a game that Park will really want to win and we must be at our best if we are to take the points.

“Although in matches such as these the form book can often be thrown out of the window it is a game we are well capable of winning.”

Waterloo take on promotion contenders Harrogate at Blundellsands next week and league leaders Chester at Hare Lane on the 19th.

“January is a tough month for us,” Deventer admitted. “We need to take every point possible starting this Saturday at Upper Park.”
