Struggling Birkenhead Park getting cast adrift

BIRKENHEAD Park will be hoping that the weather relents sufficiently to allow this Saturday’s scheduled National Three North fixture against Sandal to take place at the Upper Park.

Only one match took place in the league last Saturday with Burnage’s all weather pitch being put to good use in their victory over Rossendale.

Park’s trip to Percy Park was one of the casualties of the wintry conditions but Burnage’s victory meant Park were cast further adrift in the relegation zone.

Sandal lie in third spot and were emphatic winners in the first encounter so Park face a difficult task if they are to gain their first victory of 2013.

They now find themselves nine points away from the safety zone.

Director of rugby John McNally said: “We are under no illusions about the size of the task we are facing, we are desperate for points and need to start closing the gap on the sides above us.

“We have not had the start to the New Year we were hoping for and we need to hit top form as soon as the weather allows us to play.”
