Rugby union: Birkenhead Park

THE National 3 North programme was again obliterated due to the ongoing wintry conditions with Park's clash with Sandal being called off on Friday afternoon.

Park face another lay off this week with no scheduled fixture.

The prolonged break will at least give Park's injury list time to improve, with skipper Dave Hall and Greg Hughes among those battling to regain fitness.

Park Wanderers received the go ahead to travel up the M6 to take on Vale Of Lune in Lancaster – and they came away with the spoils after a 17-12 victory.

Coach Neil Shaw said: “The motorway had been blocked only a few hours earlier due to the heavy snow but Vale had missed the bad weather.

“The lads worked really hard and we deserved to come away with the points.”

The club has received a much-needed boost with the news that they are to receive a £25,000 award in support of their community rugby initiatives which will assist with the provision of a new family room in the clubhouse and the ongoing development of links in the local community.
