TOMMY FLEETWOOD continued his impressive start to the new European Tour campaign with a top-10 finish in Dubai.
The Southport golfer is determined to make the most of last year’s great escape, when he finished sixth in the final event in South Africa to secure his card for 2013.
He has already climbed to 51st on the Order of Merit as the Tour completed its desert swing through the Middle East.
The only frustration for the 22-year-old is that he didn’t push on from lying second overall at halfway in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. The former Challenge Tour number one had rounds of 65, 68, 69 and a level par 72 for a 14 under total that netted him 35.624 euros – his biggest in 15 months on the European Tour.
Southport’s Lee Slattery finished 37th on eight under, but Matthew Baldwin and Paul Waring, who have both had injury problems, missed the cut.
WARRINGTON’S Phil Archer finished third in the Challenge Tour opener, The Gujarat Kensville Challenge 2013 in India.
