Widnes lose to Wirral

IN A classic game of two halves, Wirral deservedly came out on top in what was a thoroughly entertaining clash in North One West.

The home side were quickly out of the blocks and led 10-0 before Widnes responded with tries from Varley, Atkin and Smith, who also added a couple of conversions and a penalty which gave the visitors a 22-10 half time lead.

It all changed after the break as the home side ran in 25 unanswered points.

Widnes face another difficult task on Saturday, when they travel to take on Wilmslow at the Memorial Ground.

It will be a tough challenge for Lee McDermott’s men as they look to try and get back to winning ways after the disappointment of losing against Wirral.

The head coach knows that Wilmslow – who have blown hot and cold this season - will be on something of a revenge mission, keen to make amends for a heavy defeat and poor performance at Heath Road at the end of October.

The game kicks off at 3.00pm.
