BIRKENHEAD PARK could not build on their previous week’s impressive display at Percy Park as they fell to Kendal in a tough encounter at Mint Bridge.
Park had an excellent start which saw hooker Stu Brown score from a driving maul in the first minute of the match. But Kendal’s forwards gained the upper hand and they responded with a home try after ten minutes. Danny Rich kicked a penalty but a second Kendal try on the stroke of half time put the Cumbrians 15-8 up at the break.
A spectacular third Kendal try after 50 minutes gave Park a huge task but they responded with a try on 75 minutes by scrum half Lee Brogan. Park continued to press but it was not to be their day as Kendal secured a well deserved victory.
Number eight Dave Ibbotson was outstanding for Park but overall it was a hugely disappointing result for Birkenhead in the battle to avoid relegation.
This Saturday Park welcome promotion chasing Harrogate who are only a point behind leaders Chester.
