WIRRAL lost their 2013 unbeaten record to a determined Wilmslow side.
In the second minute, Wilmslow took the lead through wing Sam Cutts but with half-time approaching, Wirral reduced the deficit with a penalty from Craig Harvey to leave the score 5-3 at the interval.
Wilmslow scored early in the second half with another try and the lead was increased to 12-3 with a touchline conversion from Bob MacCullum.
Both teams then exchanged penalties before captain Harvey forced his way over, converting his own try to make the score 15-13.
Wilmslow were then awarded a penalty try for 22-13 but Wirral scored a try through Rob Pearl wide out and the conversion from Harvey left Wirral two points behind.
Much as Wirral tried they could not break through the Wilmslow defence as they hung on.
This Saturday Wirral play Anselmians at home in a derby clash.
