Cricket: Vics lead cut to just four points

THE Bromborough Paints Merseyside Competition title race remains wide open with the final fixtures on Saturday.

The Tranmere Vics lead over Whitefield is down to four points. Both won in their penultimate fixtures with Whitefield collecting four extra bonus points.

Third-placed Old Xaverians can still sneak the runners-up spot if they win on Saturday and Whitefield lose heavily at Maritime.

Vics comfortably took the local derby at Bromborough by nine wickets, with Richard Baker claiming 5-23.

Whitefield saw off St Mary’s College Old Boys by 158 runs. Majid Majeed scored 81 for Whitefield.
