FORMER Lancashire batsman Mark Currie has been named The Right Move Abroad Cheshire County Cricket League ECB Premier Division Player of the Year.
The Alderley Edge man, currently playing grade cricket in Western Australia, hit 978 runs including four centuries at an average of 61 during 2007.
Runner-up just one vote behind was Currie’s Indian club-mate Sohail Rauf, the only batsman in the premiership to top four figures (1,103).
First Division Player of the Year is Macclesfield’s Australian batsman Evan Gulbis, who scored a divisional record 1,103 runs at average of 104.70.
All-rounder Ewan McCray who captained Cheadle Hulme to the title, is the Second Division Player of the Year, scoring 670 runs and taking 56 wickets.
Neston’s 16-year-old batsman David Hurst has won the League’s Young Player of the Year award. He scored 512 runs to help Neston finish runners-up. He also had an average of more than 200 in helping the League retain the North West Colts Trophy.
Macclesfield were named the League’s Most Improved Club, adding this to their 1st, 2nd, 3rd XI and Aggregate Cup titles.
Toft were nominated by the League umpires as winners of the Eddie Howard Memorial Trophy as the Most Sporting Club.
Alderley Edge’s Alan Day won the sponsors’ Performance of the Month prize for August /September for scoring 111 and taking 5-36 against Neston on September 8.
