Cricket: Familiar story as rain stops play at Old Trafford

LANCASHIRE and Derbyshire were forced to watch the rain fall at Old Trafford as their opening Friends Provident Trophy North Division game was washed out without a ball bowled.

Both sides are hoping to better their 2007 performance when neither made it out of the group stages.

Stuart Law’s Lancashire Lightning travel to the Grange at Edinburgh next Sunday where they face the Scottish Saltires.

And Rikki Clarke’s Derbyshire Phantoms side travel to Headingley on the same day to play Yorkshire Carnegie.

Both sides pick up one point for an abandoned game.
