Shazzard comes face to face with paceman

BIRKENHEAD St Mary’s aim to put the blocks on Rainhill overseas player Khuran Shazzard today.

Shazzard from Pakistan made an impressive unbeaten 147 on his debut last weekend but will face in-form Saints bowler Shakeel Nawaz who has claimed close on 20 wickets already. Birkenhead are top with Alder, Sutton and Burscough close up behind.

Sutton look to have the toughest game of the trio away to Norley Hall when Phil Frost, Rob Hughes and Joe Harvey aim to stay amongst the runs.

It will not be easy for Alder against visiting Parkfield Liscard and the Burscough v Southport Trinity match could be close. Trinity have shown mixed form to date after their demotion from the Liverpool Competition.

Little has gone right so far for Tranmere Vics and Manweb. Both have home advantage but will do well to post their first successes.

Manweb have been missing key players and have also lost Greg Galbraith and Steve Holden to Prescot & Odyssey who provide today’s opposition.

A number of first round matches in the David Kaufman memorial Trophy are scheduled for Sunday.

Meanwhile in the Merseyside Competition Port Sunlight who switched from the Cheshire League at the start of the campaign look for a fourth successive victory away to Old Xaverians.

Runcorn in Division One of the Meller Braggins Cheshire League are due at Ashton on Mersey.
