Cricket: Unbeaten pair clash in mouth-watering encounter

THIS weekend’s double header in the Merseyside and Southport Alliance opens up with a mouth watering clash between the top two with Burscough entertaining Birkenhead St Mary’s.

Both sides are unbeaten and have men in form, Kenny Hughes with the bat and Dick Powell with the ball for Burscough whilst the dangerous duo Shakil Nawaz and Mizan Haque are both in the runs and wickets for St Mary’s.

The next placed teams also meet with fourth placed Moorfield travelling to third place Alder. Mark Bricks’ men have made a promising start to the campaign but will need to stem the flow of runs from Muhammed Masroor to move up the table.

Prescot and Odyssey will be looking to build on last weeks first success when journeying across the river to Tranmere Victoria. The Vics are finding life difficult at the new level but will themselves be going flat out to get off the mark.

The other winless side, Haydock, entertain Sutton in a St Helens derby.

With Paul Roberts and Andrew Martin in good form Haydock will need one or two more contributions to see off a useful looking Sutton outfit well marshalled by Gary Greener.

A seemingly below par Norley Hall host Nigel Jackson’s Parkfield for whom Eddie McCulloch scored a splendid unbeaten century to save last week’s game at Burscough.

Another centurion was Manweb’s Peter Crookes and his side travel to Rainhill where the home side will be looking to improve on their two wins so far.

The farthest travellers of the day are Southport Trinity across to Caldy.

Bank Holiday Monday sees Burscough travelling to Moorfield in what could be a high scoring affair and St Mary’s hosting Norley Hall in the park. Sutton are on the road again but only up the A58 to Prescot and Odyssey and Kevin Murray’s Southport Trinity welcome Haydock to The Rookery.

Tranmere Vics look to have their work cut out again with Rainhill the visitors and Caldy are at Parkfield. Meanwhile Alder make the short trip along Queens Drive to Liverpool Manweb.
