Cricket: Norvell’s century inspires Norley

A FINE unbeaten 108 by Matt Norvell helped Norley Hall to a 115-run victory over visiting Parkfield Liscard in the Bromborough Paints Merseyside and Southport Alliance.

Hammad Tarik chipped in with 46 and Craig McLoughlin claimed 4-19. Ed McCullough scored a half century for the combined outfit.

Unbeaten Birkenhead St Mary’s stayed top as they inflicted a first defeat on Burscough. The margin was six wickets and the players to do well for the Wirral visitors were Shakeel Nawaz with 5-43, Fidius Vicent 4-56 and John Ford 47.

Alder accounted for Moorfield by 91 runs in a third versus fourth clash. Mohammed Masroor led the way with 68 and 6-38. Chris Spencer 80 and Ken Highdale with a half century also batted well for Alder whilst Mike Harrison contributed 59 for the losers.

Caldy, after totalling a meagre 107, saw off Southport Trinity by 64 runs. Trinity were skittled for 43 with Rich Battersby claiming 6-21. Dave Andrews took 4-15 for the seasiders.

An 8-63 haul by John Gibson could not save winless Haydock, who fell by 146 runs against visiting Sutton. Sean Anders made 71 for Sutton with good support from Gary Greener’s 54 and Joe Harvey’s 49. Ray Foster finished with 4-52 for the winners.

Tranmere Vics came close to a first success against Prescot & Odyssey with just two runs between the sides. Venkat Mudiliar took 5-27 for the winners and Ben England 5-40 for Vics.

Matt Dooling and Khuran Shazard, each with 41 not out, and Ryan Williams (5-18) were chief contributors for Rainhill, who beat Manweb by six wickets.
