Woodcock and Shaw put Alliance side to the sword

THERE was disappointment for the Bromborough Paints Merseyside and Southport Alliance as they missed out on a second round home tie against the Bristol & District League in the Cedric Rhoades Cup.

They went under by four wickets away to the Derbyshire and Cheshire League after looking to be in a strong position.

The Alliance batted first and reached 216-8 in their allotted 45 overs with Ben Edmondson 47 and Steve Holden 51 enjoying an unbeaten ninth-wicket partnership of 77 and Mike Rotheram contributing 43.

Derbyshire and Cheshire were in trouble at 107-6 but then Matt Woodcock 61 and Steve Shaw 48 produced a match-winning seventh-wicket partnership of 114. David Bailey had earlier posted 55.

Parkonians put up a good show at Upton in the first round of the Cheshire Shield before going under by 25 runs. Kieran Vora scored 66 for Upton and Ian Linwood claimed 5-31. Liam Sadler reached 42 for Parks.

RESULTS: Cedric Rhoades Cup first round: Derbyshire and Cheshire League 221-6 Merseyside and Southport Alliance 216-8. Cheshire Shield first round: Upton 186 Parkonians 161.
