Wallasey fall short to miss out in last four in Cheshire Cup

WALLASEY’S interest in the Cheshire Cup ended when they lost by 73 runs in the quarter-final round at Elworth.

The North Staffs & South-Cheshire Premier League side knocked up 226, James Murphy 4-51, after which Wallasey mustered only 153, John Pugh top-scoring with 37.

Joining Elworth in the semi-finals are Didsbury, who beat Widnes in a low-scoring affair at Wilmslow road. Widnes were bowled out for 70 (James McCoy 22) and Didsbury replied with 72-6.

Hyde meet Nantwich on Sunday in the last of the quarter-finals.

Semi-final draw: Didsbury v Elworth (Sunday, August 10), Hyde or Nantwich v Bowdon (date to be arranged).

Upton raced into the semi-finals of the Cheshire Shield with a 10 wickets win at Crewe, who had slammed 357 in the previous round against Alderley Park.

Semi-final draw (August 3): Marple or Hale Barns v Upton, Birkenhead Park or Middlewich v Malpas.
