Lancs’ faith in youth

ORMSKIRK’S Simon Kerrigan has signed his first professional contract with Lancashire.

The two-year deal sets the seal on a memorable season for the Brook Lane slow left-armer who was a key member of the side which was crowned Liverpool Competition champions at Wallasey on Saturday.

Kerrigan’s swift rise is all the more remarkable given he was bowling medium-pace for Fulwood and Broughton in the Palace Shield only two years ago.

Oldham-born Steven Cheetham has also signed his first professional contract and Lancashire have extended the deals of eight others including Stephen Parry, Oliver Newby, Steven Mullaney, Gareth Cross and Karl Brown.

And Brown, Newby, Tom Smith and Steven Croft are likely to be named in Lancashire’s squad to play Kent at Aigburth on Wednesday.
