Everton FC Manager, David Moyes _158
DAVID MOYES has revealed his admiration for Joao Moutinho – but has yet to make an approach for the Portugal midfielder.
The Everton manager is planning to go out to Euro 2008 on a scouting mission later this week, with the Sporting Lisbon man one of a number of potential targets in his sights.
And he hinted that he is ready to follow up his interest in the 21- year-old.
"He is a very good player," said Moyes last night. "But there is nothing in it at this moment in time."
Moyes was watching Moutinho from ITV’s London studio, where he was working as a pundit on Portugal’s 3-1 win over Czech Republic in Geneva.
The player has indicated he would like to play in the Premier League and is one of a number of options Moyes is considering as he looks to boost his midfield numbers.
He is also tracking Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson, who was previously released from Everton’s Academy.
He would cost in the region of £8million but new City manager Mark Hughes is keen to run the rule over the club’s young talent when he arrives for his first pre-season next month.
Johnson has three years left on his current deal and Hughes is thought to be ready to ensure he is part of his plans.
Meanwhile, Bristol City manager Gary Johnson insists he has heard nothing form Everton amidst reports of a £750,000 bid form Everton for 18-year-old defender Christian Ribeiro.
"I’ve heard the rumours and I realise people are talking about Christian," said Johnson.
Johnson said: "There has been no approach from Everton as yet and, until I receive a call from David Moyes, I’ll treat these stories as nothing more than talk.
"Christian Ribeiro has the potential to be a very good player and Bristol City is the kind of club where he is going to have an opportunity."
