Blue Watch: We'll take rotation if Wembley date comes round

Goodison Park

Just as at the start of the season, before Arteta moved in off the wing, the midfield were all over the place for long periods on Sunday.

Moyes said afterwards that he knows what he has to do to put that right, which may not spell great news for Marouane Fellaini. Before his injury, the Belgian looked oddly effective as a makeshift target man, but restored to midfield he looked well off the pace at the weekend.

Missing matches and suffering with a back problem certainly hasn’t helped him, but there are still real questions remaining over just what his long-term role in the team is.

So the Blues’ record signing is one who might actually need to play well tonight in order to avoid being dropped on Sunday, especially if Jack Rodwell is fit.

So while managers might moan about fixture congestion, for the supporters it’s great still being involved in any cup at this stage of the season.

A trip to Wembley is a big deal too, even if it is for a semi-final, so there will probably be few complaints from Evertonians if a bit of rotation tonight helps deliver the right result at the weekend.
