‘Mr Marmite’ Unsworth is a blue hero
Fair play to three of the most ‘Marmite’ players – you either love them or hate them – at Everton at the moment, they all had blinders against Wigan.
Tony Hibbert is acknowledged as a superb man-marker but so often he turns cheers to jeers within seconds when he wins the ball in a bear-trap tackle and then wastes possession by lashing a cross into the Park End.
His passing has been improving steadily this season though and against Wigan it was his cross for Marouane Fellaini to score that sealed the result.
The big Belgian himself is possibly the most divisive player ever to step out for the Toffees, and there are still doubts about where he would play once the likes of Yakubu and Mikel Arteta are fit, but as a centre-forward he’s continuing to do a sterling job.
Scoring goals is the best way for Jo to convince the club to keep hold of him, but despite five in seven games he still probably has to do quite a bit more in order to get Moyes to part with real cash for him in the summer.
Slotting in one-sided games against Wigan, Stoke and Bolton is one thing, but a goal, or at least a performance that sees him create problems for the Aston Villa defence this Sunday, is the sort of thing that would make his case seem far more genuine.
