Blue Watch: Team didn’t do enough - but Everton FC fans certainly did

Everton fans boom out Z Cars inside Wembley before FA Cup Final against Chelsea

It was still disappointing though, after the wild highs we’ve experienced in the Cup this season, like Dan Gosling’s goal to knock out Liverpool and the penalty shooutout against Manchester United. To come away empty-handed at the end of a run of matches against so many top teams is deflating.

To come so close but then end up being so far away from the first piece of silverware for almost 15 years is tough. Almost immediately talk has turned to how we can improve and do better in the future, and the universal consensus, from the fans, players and management is that money needs to be spent on better players. Doesn’t it always?

The ones we have now have already done us proud this season but the areas that need to be most improved upon were comprehensively exposed on the big stage on Saturday.

Hopefully, as everyone recovers from the disappointment of losing this final, it will be viewed as the start of a journey, not the end of one.
