EVERTON FC managed to put in another abject attacking display against Arsenal at the weekend, as the same old story reared its head for the Blues.
The need to secure a reliable striker has now become critical, and surely the club will act quickly in January to secure the signature of at least one attacking player.
Nobody is saying we should have gone to the Emirates and dominated the game, but to not even put a reasonable shot towards the opponents goal is simply unacceptable.
Apart from anything, Everton have become really dire fayre to watch in the last few months such has been the absence of the side’s lack of attacking flair.
It’s hard to believe that this was once a club lauded throughout the land for its brilliance and daring in the way it played the game. Like most things with Everton at the moment, that seems confined to the glorious past.
The internet rumour mill has thrown up the name of Thierry Henry as a potential target for Everton in January.
Surely we can’t be stooping to the level of signing former greats who are after one last, easy, pay day.
It was this transfer policy under Walter Smith that permeated a decaying atmosphere at Goodison Park 10 years ago. Moyes impressed the fans then by ridding the club of the old-stagers. It would be a sad indictment if we were to return to such a paltry policy.
Moyes’ decision to allow Jermaine Beckford to move in the summer seems now to have been short-sighted.
