IN THE NEWS

ROVERS opened a prayer room at Ewood Park for this season – and no wonder given the air of pessimism since Paul Ince’s appointment.

They must have had some extra space lying around at Ewood Park for that particular renovation.

However, suggestions that a prayer room will be constructed at Goodison where the Players Lounge used to be are wide of the mark.

WORDS OF WISDOM

"Manchester City officials have been advised that Roque Santa Cruz would not be for sale and we are very disappointed they have continued their interest."

Blackburn seem genuinely appalled that Mark Hughes has the temerity to return to Ewood for his best player – looks like he needs him too after their UEFA Cup debacle

“When you are going through hell, keep going.”

The words on David Dunn’s personalised brick in the Walker Steel Stand at Ewood – good advice to the new manager (and today’s opposition one too)

“Paul Merson thinks we may go down. But he's an idiot.”

FANCY A BET?

WITH no new signings to put your fiver or tenner on, will it be ‘Ole, Jose the record breaker’.

Everton’s 16-year-old midfielder Jose Baxter may not start today, but he has shown an eye for goal in pre-season. He has three months to break James Vaughan’s record as Everton’s youngest-ever scorer.

The Everton-Blackburn fixture has been tight in recent times with four 1-0 scorelines either way in the last five years. Another tight match could see Baxter enter the fray to cap a dream debut.

Baxter to score first (14-1 Betfred), to score anytime (23-10 Paddy Power)
