Denmark defender Lars Christian Jacobsen is Everton FC's first summer signing

Everton have announced they are on the verge of their first signing of the summer after David Moyes agreed a deal to recruit Denmark international Lars Christian Jacobsen on a free transfer.

The  28 years-old has been on Merseyside at Everton's Finch Farm headquarters with his advisers and has agreed personal terms. He will sign a one-year deal subject to a medical tomorrow subject to finalising a medical.

A right-sided defender, Jacobsen spent last season at UEFA Cup opponents FC Nuremberg. But injuries limited his appearances to just seven matches. He did not play in Everton's 2-0 group victory. The club's failure to retain their Bundesliga place led to Jacobsen asking to leave.

He started his career at Odense in 1996, making 112 appearances before making his first move to the Bundesliga with SV Hamburg.

Sandwiched between his spells in Germany was a three year period at FC Copenhagen where he played in the Champions League and helped his side to the Danish Superliga in 2003–04, 2005-06 and 2006–07.

Jacobsen has been his country's first choice at right back since 2006.
