THE PEOPLE’S SNUB
EVERTON’S title of ‘The People’s Club’ is safe for the time being it would seem.
It’s certainly not under threat from anyone at the Britannia Stadium following the latest ticket scheme inflicted upon their supporters.
Stoke have so much faith in their own fans’ loyalty, on buying a ticket for the home game with Chelsea they are being told they must also buy one for the Sunderland game the following Tuesday.
Subsequent complaints led to the visit of Spurs in October being included as an alternative second game but the deal remains: Two for the price of... two. No option.
It’s called a ‘Multi-Game’ ticket – apparently to prevent “locally-based” Chelsea fans filling the Britannia and to ensure their own supporters don't just pick and choose the ‘high profile’ games.
Good to see they have such a high opinion of their own following.
Supporter Neil Pattyson’s opinion? “Just a money-grabbing disgrace.”
SIMO NOT SORRY
IT seems Steve Simonsen will get the chance to face his former club at the Britannia Stadium tomorrow.
First choice goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has a back injury that kept him out of Denmark’s 3-2 win over Portugal in Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier.
And with the prospect of a reunion with Everton looming, Simonsen isn’t exactly rushing round a ‘Get Well Soon’ card.
“From a personal point of view,” Simonsen said, “I hope he isn’t fit, as would anyone who wants to play.”
At least he’s honest.
WORDS OF WISDOM
“It is entirely possible that we will strengthen in January.”
Tony Pulis’s 10 summer signings obviously wasn’t enough for Stoke chairman Peter Coates
“I am happy with this transfer, one of the biggest ever. But money is not of overriding importance.”
Marouane Fellaini backtracks just in time
BET ON IT
DAVID Moyes is still 20/1 to be the next Newcastle manager (Ladbrokes).
TABLES TURNED
SEEING Everton in 17th position and below this weekend’s opponents hardly rekindles memories of when both clubs were last in the top flight in 1984-85. Stoke finished bottom and Everton top – with the clubs separated by 73 points.
