The far post: A sideways looks at Arsenal v Everton

CESC FABREGAS has fallen for the oldest trick in the book.

The classic ‘player away on international duty mouths off about club in his own language not realising it will get back’ routine.

And if this particular translation of the Arsenal midfielder’s interview is accurate, it seems Everton only have to turn up today.

“Our squad is a bit short on numbers and we are very young,” says the tiny 21-year-old. “We find it very hard to win matches, as we do not possess enough experience.

“I scored 13 goals last season but then I had plenty of allies. Tomas Rosicky (injured) was around, Mathieu Flamini (now at Milan) covered every blade of grass and Alexander Hleb (who went to Barcelona) was like a brother to me out there.

“Now none of those players are in the side and I feel like a rare being. We are more sturdy as a team but we don’t play so much skilful stuff.”

All is not well then. Although being short of numbers and having to rely on kids is not exactly alien to Everton this season either.
