Caldy U12s know how to Mold a winning team

CALDY U12s won the club’s first silverware of the season at the Mold Festival.

Nine teams competed in the event Šand Caldy were grouped with Nant-Conwy, Llandudno and Wrexham.

Caldy's first game against Nant-Conwy finished 0-0 but against Llandudno they took a 10-0 lead. Although Llandudno got one back, a try-saving tackle in the Caldy corner saved the day and gave Caldy their first win.

In the match against Wrexham, Caldy came through 10-0 to progress.

The semi-final draw was not kind to Caldy, pitching them against the hosts, Mold. Once again though, they raced to a 10-0 lead. Their defence saved them in the end as Mold only managed one try back.

In the final Newtown scored first, but Caldy struck back with some strong forward drives and crash-balls from the backs to make it 5-5.

The score stayed at level and as the game wore on, it could have gone either way.

But in the final minute of regular play – with the prospect of extra time looming – Caldy struck with a fine run from the base of the scrum to take the trophy 10-5.
