Everton stadium inquiry: Kirkby ready for boomtime, say businesses
KIRKBY could be a “boom town” if the planning inspector gives the go-ahead to Everton FC and Tesco’s ambitious plans, according to town businessmen.
Kirkby Residents in Support of Progress (Krisp) headed by Mark Hagen and David Dodd have mustered significant support within the business community for the bid.
They have been in close contact with Tesco to discuss ring-fencing some 3,000 jobs within the town that they believe will be created by Destination Kirkby.
Mr Dodd said last night: “It has started already. The old town is being revamped even before Tesco get full planning permission for their superstore off Cherryfield Drive.
“That’s the level of commitment we’re seeing from them. There are companies in Kirkby that are over the moon because they’ve been given first look-in.
“In the economic climate, you’d have to be mad to want to turn it down.”
Krisp’s support for the project has gone as far as setting up free coach trips to the Trafford Centre to deprive Liverpool One of shoppers.
Liverpool One owners Grosvenor have formally objected to Destination Kirkby.
