KIRKBY campaigners said they were shocked at the way their town was portrayed to the planning inspector.
Peter Fisher, of the Kirkby Democrat Group, claimed the depiction of Kirkby by Knowsley council’s lawyer was inaccurate.
He said: “They put out all kinds of glossy documents saying how wonderful things are in Kirkby, but then when matters suit they put a very different spin on things.”
Tony Barton, of Kirkby Residents Action Group (KRAG) coalition, said: “This is their invention of Kirkby under the guise of regeneration.
“In fact this development will have a detrimental impact on every man, woman, child, cat and dog in the town as the town’s life becomes based on the whim of Sky Sports agenda for match day.”
Kirkby resident Dave Kelly, chairman of Keep Everton In Our City and a lifelong Everton supporter, said: “Kirkby and Everton just don’t sit well together.
“The town is more Southdene than Dixie Dean.”
