Tim Cahill in new injury scare for Everton

Tim Cahill

TIM CAHILL will be reassessed ahead of Everton’s trip to Wigan Athletic on Monday after his appearance for Australia in yesterday’s World Cup qualifier in Bahrain.

The midfielder was substituted late in the game, which the Socceroos won 1-0 to make it three wins out of three in their group.

Cahill appeared to come through unscathed despite his current predicament of having to play through the pain barrier due to a troublesome heel injury.

He was already relying on injections last Sunday when he played for Everton in their 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough before limping off late in the game.

Having the Wigan game pushed back to Monday to accommodate Setanta’s live football schedule will give Cahill some helpful extra recovery time from his midweek excursions in Manama.

But with Everton manager David Moyes already wary of Cahill taking to the field for his country, the extra pressure he has put on his foot will be taken into account during preparations for the trip to the JJB Stadium.

They have already been disrupted by the injury scares suffered by Marouane Fellaini and Steven Pienaar this week after both pulled out of their midweek internationals for Belgium and South Africa respectively.

Belgian medical staff confirmed Fellaini needed treatment for a groin problem after they assessed him following his initial withdrawal on Sunday.

And Pienaar aggravated a knee injury against Middlesbrough, forcing him to miss his country’s clash with Cameroon.

Moyes, however, has no concerns over Joleon Lescott’s return from international duty.

The Everton left-back was part of England’s squad for last night’s friendly with Germany in Berlin but was an unused substitute.
