Goodison stars not for sale, insist Everton

And Arteta said: “Our form is coming together, particularly at home where we have not done so well.

“We want to fight now for a place in the top six. We have been disappointed with some home results this season, but now we seem to be getting that right, too.

“We are playing so well away from home, so if we can start getting some points at home now we will have a great chance of a top six finish again.

“We have a platform now to build on. When we have been at our best we have achieved great things over the last few seasons, now we are finding that form again.”

Everton are unbeaten in their last four games, a run Arteta believes is “unbelievable” given the loss of strikers Yakubu, Louis Saha, James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe.

Moyes has been forced to press midfielders Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini into a makeshift front partnership.

And Arteta said: “To have had so many players out injured – all four of our strikers – and to have achieved this current run is unbelievable.

“We have been playing without a recognised striker for some weeks, but Cahill and Fellaini have done really well filling in those roles.

“They are hard to mark, they have good movement and they are strong. They are causing a lot of problems for defenders and they are creating space for Steven Pienaar and Leon Osman out wide. If we keep going like this we will be right in there at the end for a place in Europe.

“There is great confidence now among the players, everyone wants to play and to fight for their place in the side. The competition for places is still strong, and that shows the strength we have in this squad.

“They have had to adapt, play in different roles because of the injuries, and still we are coming up with the points.

“We have performances now to match our ambition.

“The attitude has been great considering that we have been really stretched in terms of covering for injured players.”

Meanwhile, Steven Pienaar’s winner at Tottenham Hotspur on November 30 has instead been credited as an own goal by Tottenham defender Vedran Corluka after it was reviewed by the Football Association’s dubious goals panel.
