Leon Osman's goal is to break new ground

FA CUP hero Leon Osman is determined to break new ground for Everton in front of goal this season.

The midfielder’s fourth strike of the campaign was enough to see off Macclesfield Town at the weekend and set up a mouthwatering Merseyside derby clash against Liverpool in the next round.

Osman’s best-ever tally for season is seven, a figure he first reached in the 2004-05 campaign and again last year.

And the 27-year-old has targeted a new landmark as Everton look to enjoy a profitable second half of the campaign.

“This season is halfway through and I’ve scored four goals, so if I can score another four then I’d be delighted with that total.

“To score any goal is great but the one against Macclesfield wasn’t a bad one, especially as we won the game with it.

“It was opportunist. I got myself in the right spot and, once I’d brought the ball down, I just hit it and thought ‘let’s see what happens’. Thankfully, it went in the top corner.

“I just try and score goals no matter how they go in, I’m just pleased to get on the scoresheet.”

Meanwhile, Lars Jacobsen’s hopes of a first appearance in an Everton shirt were thwarted when last night’s reserve game against Manchester City at Hyde United was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The 29-year-old, a summer signing from German outfit FC Nurnberg, was due to make his long-awaited return from a dislocated shoulder sustained in September. “Lars has been back in full training for a few weeks now and is coming along nicely,” said David Moyes.

“But he needs games now and we are looking to get him going again as quickly as possible.”
