CUP fever well and truly arrived at Goodison yesterday.
A classic cup encounter saw the Blues deservedly progress through to the quarters – and don’t let Martin O’Neill try to convince you otherwise.
Everton dominated the game despite having two supposed rookies playing in midfield. Rodwell and Gosling are proof positive of the fabulous work being done at youth level.
Both players looked composed and not one inch out of place as Everton put together some wonderful passing football.
Victor Anichebe made a gutsy and hard-working contribution, and he was warmly applauded off the pitch as he was substituted towards the end.
He won one penalty and created another goal so hopefully his set-to with David Moyes can be confined to the past.
Tim Cahill’s work rate was, as per usual, astonishing and he led the line as well as Duncan Ferguson ever did in the royal blue.
But the strength of this Everton team lies in the defence.
