David Moyes: Everton's stability is our strength

DAVID MOYES believes Newcastle United’s struggles this season demonstrate the pitfalls of their “revolving door” policy compared to the consistency at Everton.

The two teams meet at St James’ Park tomorrow afternoon having so far experienced vastly contrasting campaigns.

While Everton are firmly ensconced as a top-six Premier League side and have won through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, Newcastle are only four points above the relegation zone and face a battle to avoid the drop.

Moyes is approaching the seventh anniversary of his arrival at Goodison, a tenure during which Newcastle have had six different permanent managers along with four temporary appointments.

And the Scot reckons Newcastle should follow the example of the Everton board and show faith in their manager rather than constantly chop and change.

“What we have here at Everton is continuity, and I suppose that comes from the fact that we’ve had consistency at the top,” said Moyes.

“When you compare that the Newcastle, it tells you something. It’s amazing what has happened there. It’s not my business, but even as an outsider looking in, you can see that there has been a revolving door there and the players must have difficulty in bedding anything down.

“What we have is a consistency that helps us through these tough times. They’ve had six managers in the time I’ve been here.

“Bobby Robson was in charge when I first arrived at Everton, and in my third game they beat us 6-2. I remember he said it was David Moyes’ welcome to the Premiership.

“I look at them now, and I do think that maybe they’ve got their reasons, but surely they must say ‘hey, it’s time to a manager the time to do the job correctly, and time to get some continuity’, otherwise it goes on forever.”
