Everyman transformed into football stadium as LRC take on EFC in Derby Day re-enactment
EVERY boy’s dream to score the winning goal at the Merseyside Derby is the subject of a homegrown play at the Liverpool Everyman this week.
Billy Wonderful tells the story of one-time football star Billy Walters, played by David Lyons, as he relives the match that marked the turning point in his life.
The key moments on the pitch are mirrored by key events in his life, spread over 22 years.
Billy is an Evertonian but Liverpool fans can enjoy this show too as his father, played by ex-Brookside star Neil Caple, is a staunch LFC fan.
Audiences are encouraged to grab their scarves and wear their football tops for a night of high energy as they experience derby day re-enacted on stage.
Set in the round, the performance turns the theatre into a football stadium, almost unrecognisable with seating on four sides and banners and flags adorning the walls.
Penned by Liverpool Everyman former associate writer Nick Leather and directed by Serdar Bilis, the play runs until Saturday April 4 and has already toured to community venues.
