Moyes is better than “weird” Benitez, says Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson
SIR ALEX FERGUSON has described Rafael Benitez’s actions as “weird” and believes David Moyes is a better manager than the Spaniard.
Ferguson was once again commenting about the attack on him by Benitez in January in which the Liverpool manager read a list of “facts” that suggested preferential treatment for his United counterpart.
The latest response was made public just days after Ferguson’s league leaders were thrashed 4-1 by Liverpool at Old Trafford – their heaviest home defeat to their bitter North West rivals since 1936.
And when asked what he thought about Benitez’s tirade, Ferguson said: “Weird. I really don’t know what he was talking about. I’d be amazed if his staff or his players thought it was a good idea.”
Ferguson then went on to pointedly leave Benitez out of a list of the best other managers in the Premier League, which included Everton manager and Scottish compatriot Moyes.
“You’d have to say Arsene Wenger, David Moyes and Martin O’Neill,” said the 67-year-old.
