David Moyes: Final places up for grabs - Everton FC latest

DAVID MOYES has warned Everton’s FA Cup heroes that any slacking will cost them their place at next month’s final.

Moyes’s men face a dress rehearsal of their forthcoming Wembley showpiece this evening when they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Everton booked their place at the May 30 final following a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Manchester United on Sunday.

The exertions of that energy-sapping triumph mean Moyes is expected to rest a number of players for tonight’s match, with the Goodison outfit aiming to leapfrog Aston Villa into fifth place.

Everton are already virtually assured a place in next season’s revamped UEFA Europa League but have only an outside chance of clinching Champions League qualification.

However, Moyes has told his squad that anyone taking it easy during the final six Premier League games risks missing out at Wembley.

“The players have to drive themselves on, if they want to enjoy another nice day down here they are going to have to show me that they can play well enough between now and the end,” said the Goodison manager.

“They have done that up to now. I have had no reason to suggest that they won’t do.

“If they don’t perform then the slackers would be brought to attention and called out.

“If any of them thought it was natural to go slack then they would be going slack at Wembley as well because they wouldn’t be at Wembley. If any of them think that’s natural to them, it’s completely unnatural to me. It can happen, but it won’t be natural to me, so I’ll need to do something about it, if they went that way. I just won’t allow it.”

Moyes is determined Everton avoid a repeat of four years ago when, four days after securing a top four place and Champions League qualification, they were humiliated 7-0 at Arsenal.
