'Nightmare' Everton FC season can end with dream finish for James Vaughan

James Vaughan

“We are all a really right knit bunch at Everton and I think that showed in the semi final. It was great to be in the dressing room afterwards, seeing those faces and being part of that… and I just want more now.”

Vaughan is likely to have another chance to impress when Everton take on Chelsea in a Cup final dress rehearsal at Stamford Bridge this evening.

Moyes has intimated he will rest several players, and says: “James is likely to be involved in some capacity on Wednesday.

“And he now has a chance of being involved in the Cup final as he is getting back to fitness.

“Ideally we want him to get him three or four more reserve game but in an ideal world without injuries we would not been using yet, but would be getting him games and thinking about the start of next season.

“We have had no choice but to get him as he is a striker and we have not had many. But the good thing about him is that he pushed hard to get back all the time. He wants to play and get involved. He showed some courage on Sunday to take the penalty kick.”

Everton have stayed down in London after Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final win in preparation for tonight’s game.

But Moyes reveals there were no major celebrations within his squad with the main job of winning the trophy still to come.

“Sunday night was good,” he says. “It was quiet, reflective. I can't say we celebrated because we don't feel we've got anything to celebrate.

“The only thing we can say that beating any Manchester United team in the semi-final would be a big achievement in itself, so we've enjoyed it. We feel good about it.

“But I wanted the players to be humble in their victory. That wasn't our cup final. It's still to come.

“We had a glass of champagne at the end of the night, but no more. The rest is on ice for another day.”
