Chelsea were unhappy at the performance of referee Tom Henning Ovrebo, who turned away what appeared four strong penalty shouts for Guus Hiddink’s men.

And Ballack has urged his team-mates to forget the setback and go on to finish the season on a high with FA Cup victory.

“We played against the top team in Europe, maybe the strongest at the moment, and we deserved to get to the next round,” said the Germany international.

“Last year we had a really big disappointment that with one penalty we could get the cup.

“On Wednesday, it came in the 93rd minute and it’s unbelievable.

“Luck is not on our side. Last year there was unbelievable pain and now it’s the same.

“The FA Cup is the last possibility to win a trophy this year and we will try everything for sure.

“We have worked hard in this competition and so we want to win it.”

Meanwhile, in-form Steven Pienaar has been included in South Africa’s provisional squad for this summer’s Confederations Cup competition.

The event is chiefly preparation for the country hosting next year’s World Cup, with Pienaar expected to make the cut when Bafana Bafana coach Joel Santana whittles the party down to 23 names.

The eight-team tournament also features Central American champions USA, South American champions Brazil, European champions Spain, World champions Italy, African champions Egypt, Asian champions Iraq and Australasian champions New Zealand.
