DAVID MOYES believes destiny is calling Everton as they prepare to step out at Wembley this afternoon.
The Goodison outfit aim to end a 14-year wait for silverware and claim the sixth FA Cup in their history when they take on Chelsea in the final.
It is their 13th appearance at the showpiece occasion and their first since Paul Rideout’s header defeated Manchester United 1-0 in 1995.
Moyes’s side have already beaten fellow top-six sides Liverpool, Aston Villa and Manchester United en route to the final.
And having overcome a poor start to the campaign to secure a second successive top-five finish, the Everton manager is convinced the force is with his team.
“I don’t think you cannot keep performing at the levels we have with the consistency we have had and not in the end get rewarded somewhere along the line,” said Moyes.
“We have been knocking on the door – maybe not in terms of cup finals – but we’ve been knocking on the door of trying to gain some sort of foothold near the top of the Premier League so hopefully we are due to win something very soon.”
Although both Premier League matches against Chelsea ended in creditable goalless draws, Moyes has not beaten the Londoners in 20 attempts since taking over at Goodison in March 2002.
Chelsea, who finished the season in third place and were within seconds of reaching the Champions League final, are seeking to regain the trophy they won in 2007.
And Moyes admitted: “It suits us being underdogs. I think we go in with the knowledge that the pressure will on Chelsea to perform and show the side they are and we go into the game with the attitude to show we are capable of playing at this stage.
