He added: “We are aware that a small number of our fans may have booked independent travel to Africa.
“As a club we are obviously not in a position to make compensation payments but we will be discussing the situation internally and with the match organisers.”
Club officials are now looking at potential opposition on or around the date of July 12, but if any game would take place in the UK.
In traditional fashion, Everton’s final friendly of the summer will be on home turf with Malaga heading for Goodison Park on Friday, August 7. The Andalusian club finished eighth in La Liga last season in their first season back in Spain’s top flight after a two-year absence.
With the trip to Ghana now off, Everton are scheduled to begin their pre-season programme at Spotland against League Two Rochdale on July 18.
They then embark on a two-game tour of North America as they face Argentinian giants River Plate in Edmonton, Canada, on July 26 before tackling the MLS All-Stars in Salt Lake City on July 29. Returning to England, Everton then have a couple of trips to Championship opposition in the shape of Coventry City on August 2 and Blackpool on August 4 before Malaga’s visit to Goodison.
