Sporting Lisbon have reiterated that one-time Everton target Joao Moutinho remains not for sale.
The 22-year-old was a major target for Moyes last summer only for Sporting to stand firm in the face of efforts to prise the player away to Goodison. And heading off any potential interest during this transfer window, Sporting president Jose Eduardo Bettencourt said: “Joao is essential to our project. He is captain and we are not interested in the sale. Rumours are expected at this time, but Sporting have a very made a very clear decision – Moutinho is indispensable.”
