RASMUS ELM was last night keeping Everton waiting – as the club faced up to the disappointment of missing out on Kyle Naughton.
The England youth international joined Tottenham Hotspur yesterday in an £8m double deal along with his Sheffield United teammate Kyle Walker.
It finally brought an end to a hugely-frustrating saga for Everton, who were convinced a fortnight ago that Naughton would move to Goodison Park.
Not surprisingly, Goodison officials are still enraged by the Blades’ conduct as they had done a deal to bring Naughton to Merseyside but still ended up getting gazumped.
Naughton turned out for a Tottenham XI last night, coming on as a half-time substitute in a 3-1 defeat at Aldershot and provided the cross for a Danny Rose headed goal.
But, with David Moyes in need of players to bolster a small squad, there is no time for dwelling on the matter and attentions will now be quickly focused elsewhere.
Sweden international Elm is one of a number of players whom the manager is looking at and the 21-year-old was given a tour of Finch Farm last Friday. Although it is understood that he was impressed with what he saw, Elm has since returned to his native country and not provided Everton with an answer as to where his future lies.
Having helped Kalmar become Swedish champions last year, Elm will definitely move this summer after turning down the offer of a new contract.
