Yakubu added: “I don’t know really which game I will be back for. But training has been good, and it’s been good to be training again with the team.
“The recovery is going good and the injury is getting better and better. I’ve just been patient, worked hard and set my target to work to and stuck to it. Baz was great to have by my side every step of the way.
In Yakubu’s absence, Louis Saha has cemented his place in attack and Brazilian forward Jo has re-signed on a 12-month loan after impressive during a temporary stay during the second half of last season.
With James Vaughan also available and Victor Anichebe fighting back to fitness, Moyes could soon have a plethora of attacking options at his disposal.
But Yakubu welcomes the competition for places, and said: “It’s good when you have good strikers on the side. They’re doing good and it’ll be great to fight for my place.
“Every year the side is getting better. We are getting stronger as a unit and we are building. It’s great.”
