Everton FC reject £18million Manchester City offer for Joleon Lescott

Joleon Lescott

That, though, will not detract City, who are keen to add Lescott to their squad despite continuing their remarkable spending spree yesterday by completing the £16m signing of centre-back Kolo Toure from Arsenal.

It is thought the Eastlands outfit are clinging to the hope that Lescott is wooed by the promise of the riches provided by the club’s Abu Dhabi owners and an increasingly all-star squad, and agitates for a move to Mark Hughes’s ambitious side.

Although City have already snapped up the likes of Carlos Tevez, Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz and Emmanuel Adebayor this summer, the failure to entice John Terry away from Chelsea indicated their methods are not always successful.

And should they finally give up on signing Lescott, the Eastlands side are ready to train their sights on Roma’s French centre-back Philippe Mexes.
