Despite expressing his desire to change his shirt number, Saha fully appreciated joining a list of illustrious Everton names such as Dixie Dean, Tommy Lawton, Alex Young, Joe Royle, Bob Latchford, Graeme Sharp and Andy Gray to have donned the number nine.
“I enjoyed wearing the famous number nine shirt and it was a great honour to be handed this when I joined the club,” said the France international.
“I am aware of the huge tradition associated with the shirt and the great players that have played in it, but my personal preference is to have the number eight.”
In other squad number alterations, Dan Gosling switches from number 32 to number 19, while Seamus Coleman is number 31.
