Everton manager plays down Jo injury fears as striker limps out of friendly defeat at Blackpool

DAVID MOYES last night allayed fears Jo had suffered a serious injury after Everton fell to pre-season defeat at Blackpool.

The Brazilian striker left Bloomfield Road on crutches after turning his ankle during the 2-1 friendly loss to the Coca-Cola Championship side.

Jo, who had scored a first-half equaliser for the visitors, had to be helped down the tunnel after hobbling off with 15 minutes remaining.

But Everton manager Moyes said: “He went over on his ankle but we don’t think it’s too severe.

“We didn’t think it was too bad at the time and we don’t think it is now.”

Everton were undone by some poor defending in conceding a fourth-minute goal from David Vaughan and a 28th-minute strike from veteran Jason Euell.

And an unhappy Moyes added: “It wasn’t very good, so we’re disappointed. I was disappointed with the performance in the first half, all round it was well below what we expected.”

Everton will renew talks today with Arsenal over the prospective transfer of Philippe Senderos – who they insist is not a replacement for Joleon Lescott.

The Goodison outfit confirmed yesterday they had opened negotiations with the Londoners over the transfer of centre-back Senderos.

However, the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement over a fee for the 24-year-old Switzerland international.

Arsenal are holding out for around £6million while Everton value the player at less than that figure.
