THE manager of Everton’s Europa League opponents, Sigma Olomouc, says he will not be taken in by Saturday’s freak opening day result at Goodison Park.
The Czech manager travelled to Merseyside to watch Everton’s staggering 6-1 defeat by Arsenal at the weekend, but while he left no doubt given encouragement for his side’s chances of making progress into the group stages, he still described his club’s play-off opponents as “very good defensively.”
Zdenek Psotka said: “We’re coming here to get a result, so we return home with a good idea of what we need to do for our home match.
“Our team is very young and we are looking for new experiences. Everton will provide that for us as they are very strong opponents.
“I want a good result, but the game will be a good experience. But Everton are a typical British club. Last season they had some very good results. They have many good players, for example Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini, and they are very good defensively.”
Psotka masterminded an impressive 8-1 aggregate defeat of Aberdeen in the competition's second qualifying round, having recorded a 3-1 aggregate win over Iceland’s Fram Rejkyavik in the first stage.
But after slipping up at the same stage last season to Belgian club Standard Liege, and struggling to overcome Ukraine’s Metalist Kharkiv at the same stage the previous year, Everton will be aware of the danger posed by the Czechs.
