David Moyes slams Joleon Lescott and leaves him out - Everton FC latest

DAVID MOYES yesterday launched a broadside at wantaway Joleon Lescott after dramatically dropping the centre-back from tonight’s Europa League qualifier.

But the Everton manager has warned Manchester City he will not even contemplate selling the England international unless they meet his valuation of the player.

Moyes took the decision to axe Lescott after becoming alarmed by his poor attitude in the wake of last Saturday’s 6-1 home drubbing against Arsenal.

City, whose summer pursuit of the player was described by Moyes last week as "disgusting", have already failed in bids of £15million and £18m, and are thought to be only prepared to go to £22m.

Lescott trained alone yesterday while his team- mates prepared for the Goodison first leg against Czech Republic side Sigma Olomouc.

And Moyes, who ready to move for Spartak Moscow winger Vladimir Bystrov, will only consider recalling Lescott once his approach improves.

"His attitude has been poor post- Arsenal," said the Scot. "I have made a decision now. He is a good boy and I think things have changed him. After September 1, he needs to get his head back around it.

"Normally he is a very good trainer and very focused but he doesn’t seem to be that at this present time.

"I feel Joleon Lescott has been got to and he is letting himself down with his own behaviour."

Despite banishing Lescott to the sidelines, Moyes says the week’s events have only strengthened his resolve to hold on to the 27-year- old during this transfer window. Moyes said: "It doesn’t mean the end of his Everton career. He might be in the first-team squad for this weekend if I see there is a change in his attitude.

"I will have another centre-half soon, at least one, and Joleon will have a decision to make. Until his attitude changes, he won’t be included. He could be out the squad for just one game. I will have to see how his attitude is next time.

"I can see a time when he is fully focused on Everton again. The talks he has had with people have obviously upset him and he has lost his direction but that can be brought back. He has a World Cup to aim for at the end of the season."
